Sarojini naidu

Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879, in Hyderabad, India.

She was the eldest daughter of Aghorenath Chattopadhyay and Barada Sundari Devi.

Naidu was a gifted child and showed signs of her intellectual abilities from a young age. She was proficient in several languages, including Urdu, Telugu, English, and Bengali.

She received her education from England and studied at King’s College London and Girton College, Cambridge.

Naidu as a poet

Naidu was a talented poet and her first collection of poems, named “The Golden Threshold,” was published in 1905

She was an active participant in the Indian independence movement and was a close associate of leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Rabindranath Tagore.

First Women President

She became the first woman president of the Indian National Congress in 1925 and held the position till 1929.

Naidu was also appointed as the Governor of the United Provinces in 1947, becoming the first woman to hold such a high office in India.
